We built Jinny Care to close a gap families kept falling into.

An occupational therapist writes a home safety recommendation. A family gets a list of changes to make. And then… nothing, because no one connects the recommendation to a contractor who actually shows up.

1921 – 2020

The Jinny Behind Jinny Care

Jinny Care is named for our founder Hank Emerson's grandmother, Virginia “Jinny” McFalls Barker. Born in 1921 in Grand View-on-Hudson, New York, she moved to Orlando, Florida with her mother in 1941 and married Donald Barker the following year. They stayed married until his death in 2005, raised three children, and spent decades relaxing and entertaining at a riverfront property they loved along the Wekiva-St. Johns watershed.

What we remember most about Jinny wasn't caution: it was her appetite for living. She toured Western Europe with her parents as a teenager in 1936 and was still traveling internationally in her late 70s. She played at the Winter Park Racquet Club, found community through her church, and after moving into a retirement community in 1994, she ran the thrift store, organized standing Saturday brunches with her friends, and never really slowed down. She passed in 2020, just ten days after her 99th birthday, having spent almost all of those years independent, on her own terms, surrounded by people she loved.

That's the standard this company is built around. Not just safety for its own sake, but the kind of independence and plain joy in living that Jinny never gave up. Every ramp we build and every grab bar we install exists to buy a family more of that: more years of Mom or Dad living life on their own terms, in the home and community they love.

This company carries her name because we hope it lives up to her spirit.

Our story

Aging-in-place guidance and construction, under one roof.

Jinny Care started with a simple observation: most communities have excellent hospitals, home health agencies, and occupational therapists who know exactly what a home needs to be safer. What they often don't have is a single, trustworthy contractor built specifically to take that recommendation and turn it into grab bars, ramps, and finished bathrooms, quickly and without a family having to manage three separate vendors.

We connect families with a trusted network of vetted local contractors and care partners, working directly with families and alongside the healthcare and senior-care professionals who refer them to us, wherever they're located.

What guides our work

  • Safety first. Every recommendation is grounded in accessible-design guidelines, not upselling.
  • Plain answers. If a modification isn't needed yet, we'll say so.
  • Closed loops. Families and referral partners both get a clear update at every stage.
